American Legacy--Our National Parks
PAPA's American Legacy exhibition is on view through January 16, 2011, at the City of Lake Charles, in the second floor gallery of the the 1911 Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA It opens at the Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, on February 13, 2011. Traveling through 2013 under the auspices of Smith Kramer Exhibition Services,  additional venues may be viewed in the Press Room.  To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. The Allure of Water
PAPA is proud to announce its 2011 exhibition and Sale at The Haggin Museum. The Allure of Water brings together more than 100 artworks by 40 Signature and Emeritus PAPA members and Guest Artists. The theme is interpreted in both its physical and spiritual meanings to us all. The exhibition opens with a gala weekend of events on October 15, 2011. Guest artists are Bill Anton, Kathleen Dunphy, Andy Evansen, Gerald Fritzler, Michael Lynch, Jim Morgan and Randall Sexton. Stay tuned for more information!

Joe Paquet is included in the book, Sketchbook Confidential, published in November 2010 by North Light Books.  West Fraser  is featured in an article by Mark Mussari, "Portraits of Places," in the December 2010 issue of Southwest Art magazine. Included is his painting Bird Count, oil, 50x68 (right). Fraser will also have a solo exhibition at the Spartanburg Art Museum, SC, opening February 17, 2011.  

 

Banishment of Beauty
Scott Burdick spoke on the subject of The Banishment of Beauty at the recent American Artist Weekend with the Masters.  You can view and hear his provocative presentation on UTube.  It's a journey through the timeless beauty of the centuries into the degradation of modern art that you'll never forget.

 

Deck the Walls

 Miniatures in Fredericksburg
John Budicin and Matt Smith are exhibiting in the 15th Annual Christmas Miniature Show at Whistle Pik Galleriesthrough January 15, 2011.  And Scott Burdick and Skip Whitcomb are exhibiting in Celebrations, the second annual show and sale at Insight Gallery, December 1-23, 2010. Both galleries are in Fredericksburg, TX.

 

Winter Miniature Show

Painted Deserts
Jean LeGassick is part of a four-person exhibition titled Painted Deserts at the Churchill Arts Council, Oats Park Art Center, Fallon, NV. The exhibition is on view December 4, 2010, through March 10, 2011. A panel discussion takes place January 29, 2011, at 4 pm, moderated by William L. Fox and followed by a reception from 5 to 7 pm. Washington State Artists
Ned Mueller is exhibiting with 14 Seattle area artists at Kirklland Fine Art Gallery in Kirkland, WA, December 4-24, 2010, with an opening reception on December 4, from 10 am to 8 pm. (right: Guatemala, oil)

 

Open Studio
Gil Dellinger is hosting his annual Open Studio, December 10-11, 2010, 11 am to 5 pm, with a demonstration at 4 pm on both days. Visit him at 5460 Hildreth Ln, Stockton, CA.

 

Raleigh Kinney Announces Winter Schedule
Kinney will be exhibiting December 10-11, 2010, at the Green Valley Art Festival, Green Valley, AZ,  January 14-16, 2011, at the 18th Annual Carefree Art & Wine Festival, Carefree, AZ; and February 18-20, 2011, at the Sonoran Arts League Festival of Fine Art,Cave Creek, AZ. Kinney is also hosting a series of three-day Artist Studio Workshops on watercolor techniques in his Mesa, AZ, studio.  

 

Turning Tides
Don Demers sold more than half of his major one-man show, Turning Tides, Changing Light, at Vose Galleries, Boston, MA. The show hangs through December 18, 2010, and there are still great works available.  His paintings are also reproduced in articles in the Sept/Oct 2010  Fine Art Connoisseur the Nov/Dec Art of the West and the November issue of American Art Collector (left: Old Dock House, oil, 9x12).


 

 

 

Romantic Visions

Coors Western Art Show
The 2011 Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale opens with a Red Carpet Reception on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, and is open to the public through January 23, 2011.  PAPA members included are Gil Dellinger and Skip Whitcomb.

 

Masters of the American West
The Autry, Los Angeles, CA, announced participating artists in the February 5, 2011, Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition & Sale.  PAPA members participating are Peter Adams, Christopher Blossom, Ralph Oberg and Matt Smith. American Miniatures
Settler's West Galleries, Tucson, AZ, hosts its annual exhibition of small original paintings and sculptures on February 12, 2011.
