Joan LeRue majored in fashion arts in college and went on to teach at the University of Oklahoma, but soon felt the tug of art and adventure. Realizing she needed to learn from master artists, she began taking workshops around the world with great painters. Eventually her pursuit brought her to exotic locals where she rode on horses, camels, elephants, burros and traveled by old jeep and derelict boat, often to places she never should have been.
Painting and documenting the natural world are not only a passion but her driving desire. To that end she has petted a baby gray whale in a warm water lagoon in Baja and touched its humongous mama who swam up close to their fisherman's tiny boat. In the the Chitwan Jungle, she rode an elephant through crocodile infested waters and trekked through the Himalayan foothills.
