As I traveled about the west I was fascinated with the grandeur of the mountains, lakes, and canyons and longed to capture their beauty. That was when I knew I would become an artist. The dream finally became a reality after studying with artists such as Sergei Bongart, Robert E. Wood, Millard Sheets, Tom Nicholas and others. I began to accumulate awards and was granted Signature status in a number of prestigious art associations, including Knickerbocker Artists of New York, CAC, OPA, and PAPA. From the beginning, I realized the importance of painting directly from nature.

In addition to proficiency in oils and watercolor, I was always attracted to pastels and now do most of my outdoor painting with them. Over the last number of years, I have fallen in love with France, it’s countryside, it’s medieval villages and it’s people, so I have been painting as many areas as possible. I think it’s the timelessness of these places that fascinates me; ancient buildings are restored, added onto and repurposed instead of just being torn down and replaced every 20 or 30 years. An old farm might still be used for farming, but, after converting the stables into cozy chambers has also become a charming bed and breakfast. I think that the only way I can capture their essence is to immerse myself completely and take the time painting on location.
